Macrolane® is the latest development in the Restylane® range, and makes it possible to correct body contours without an operation, scar or implant. Typical applications are to increase the volume of breasts, buttocks and calves and to correct dips or dents resulting from trauma or earlier liposuction.
It can also be used to improve the backs of hands when these have a thin, hollowed appearance.
This gel can be used to sculpt the body in any way required.
For breast enlargement, it is ideal for a person with a small bust who wants to be one cup size larger but does not want an implant. In the Far East this treatment has become a real hype. One advantage is that the treatment can be carried out as an outpatient and with a local anaesthetic. The result is immediately visible and the gel is broken down naturally over the course of two to three years.
Dr. De Meyere has developed a technique whereby a type of modelling clay is first applied to the buttock so that you as the patient can demonstrate precisely what you want. After a few minutes this clay hardens to form a rubber layer, on which a grid can be drawn. By cutting the rubber layer and weighing each square, it is possible to determine exactly how much gel should be applied at every site on the buttock to achieve the desired result.
Using a local anaesthetic, Macrolane® gel is applied subcutaneously through a small incision high in the calf. The result is again visible immediately. A circular dressing must be worn below the area that has been treated for two weeks to prevent the gel from sagging.
As people grow older, the subcutaneous tissue on the back of the hand becomes thinner. As a result the large vessels and bones of the hand become more visible.
This can be significantly improved by applying Macrolane. Usually 10 ml is enough to treat both hands.
